Stress Management for Chronic Pain IOP
The Challenges of Chronic Pain
Chronic pain conditions negatively impact your ability to perform daily tasks and life roles the way you once did prior to the onset of your chronic pain. Whatever the cause of your chronic pain, you may feel hopeless, depressed and anxious over what the future may hold. Stressful life situations often pour gasoline on the fire of your existing pain condition. Have you ever felt nobody can help or there are no answers? La Paloma can help.

- Reducing physical and emotional pain
- Improving energy
- Increasing motivation
- Stabilizing mood
- Increasing quality of life
The goal of the Stress Management for Chronic Pain IOP is to form the foundation of success by reducing your pain and improving your ability to function day to day. The tools you will learn will empower you to increase your quality of life through a unique combination of physical, nutritional, medicinal, stress management and relaxation skills.
Team Approach and Therapeutic Setting
The La Paloma Stress Management for Chronic Pain IOP is staffed by physicians and therapists with many years of experience in treating individuals with chronic pain conditions. The program is headed by Dr. Adrian Blotner, who is board certified in Pain Medicine and Psychiatry. He has specialized in medication management of chronic pain since 1988, providing him with a unique perspective and ability to produce superior clinical outcomes with the integration of physical, biological and behavioral interventions.
Launched in October 2011, this innovative outpatient program teaches non-medication techniques to reduce chronic pain, mood, anxiety and sleep disorders as well as the stress caused by chronic pain. These proven methods have effectively reduced physical pain and the emotional distress that can amplify it.
The average treatment consists of between 12 and 21 three-hour sessions, which includes three sessions per week. Meetings are currently held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm in La Paloma’s second location for Outpatient Services (across the street from the main location) at 763 Brookhaven Circle.
Those who complete our program have seen a 30-50 percent decrease in pain and find they do not need as much medication. They also report being more physically active and get more pleasure from activities with family and friends.

Treatment Approach and Philosophy
We must understand the person who has the pain condition in order to understand the unique impact on that individual’s lifestyle. Only then can we improve coping skills, stress management and role functioning as the foundation for effective physical, biological and behavioral well-being.
Each IOP participant must currently be working with a physician and have completed a medical, physical, and psychiatric assessment. Our clinical team will review all assessments and will provide coordination of care with your current healthcare providers.
