Treatment for drug & alcohol addiction typically involves help withdrawing from the drug, followed by counseling and other services to develop a healthy support system and maintain a lifestyle free of addiction. Many treatment centers offer treatment that deals with addiction but does not address the other emotional and mental issues that the majority of individuals with substance abuse issues are also facing. According to SAMSHA, up to 65.5% of individuals with substance abuse/dependency issues have at least one co-occurring mental disorder, and 51% of individuals with a mental disorder also have at least one co-occurring addictive disorder. LaPaloma offers treatment for addictive disorders and co-occurring mental disorders together. Our evidence based, integrative methods have been proven more effective than traditional drug and alcohol treatment methods in a five-year research study using the Foundations Treatment Model.
The treatment philosophy at LaPaloma incorporates a variety of clinical components to create a comprehensive, integrative Treatment Program. Treatment at our Memphis facility is founded on The Foundations Treatment Model and also employs a variety of recovery therapies according to the specific needs of the individual including: cognitive behavioral (CBT), 12-Step Principles, and adjunct therapies including music, yoga, EMDR, and psychodrama. We encourage individuals to participate in recovery support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA).
LaPaloma incorporates best practices in addictions and behavioral health treatments that are highly individualized and client-directed. The comprehensive treatment programs at LaPaloma offer a fully integrated continuum of outpatient and residential services. We have proven results that offering motivational services based on each client's individual stage of readiness will promote engagement, retention, and solid long-term recovery outcomes.
Foundations Associates is one of very few treatment centers in the country to collect five-year comprehensive outcomes data on all clients, six and twelve months after program discharge. The data below shows just how effective an integrated treatment model can be:
- Increase in Abstinence—A vast majority of clients, from 70% to 80%, abstained from using chemicals (alcohol, opiates, etc.) up to one year following treatment.
- Reduction of Severity of Symptoms—Severity of psychiatric symptoms was reduced by 60% with corresponding improvements in quality of life.
- Dramatic Cut in Repeat Service Utilization—High-cost service utilization dropped dramatically following treatment, with 80% to 90% reductions in inpatient and emergency room (ER) visits related to substance use or mental health problems. Likewise, inpatient and ER visits for general healthcare declined by 50% to 60%.
- Cost-Effective Care Increased—Service profiles showed an increase in appropriate and cost-effective utilization of community supports and services.
